What does a live event painter do?
I will arrive at your venue about an hour before painting begins and get set up, take photos, and develop my composition. I will take a few pictures, study your face, your style, and your movements. Then, I will get to work on a blank or toned canvas as the guests watch!
I will set up in a spot that is advantageous for me and for your guests, while not in the way of any other vendors, or activities. I can move my easel during the evening, to paint at cocktail hour, and also at dinner. I will paint with my back to the guests, so they can see the work as it progresses. In the classical tradition, I stand to paint.
Guests will come up to me and chat, and often check on the progress of the painting during the evening. Once a painting is complete, I will put it on display, so guests can see it, perhaps as they take a break from dancing! Usually a venue will have a display easel for this purpose. You may wish to ask your photographer to get a photo of your with your painting, or plan to have a “first look” at your painting. Some newlyweds stop by to paint a few marks of their own on the canvas, and others prefer to be surprised at the end!
I will stay about 4-6 hours at the wedding. You can assign someone to bring the painting home that evening, or I can spend more time on it in the studio, and we can meet near Mystic, CT, or I can ship to your location.
What should I do if I want to take my painting home the same evening?
Assign a friend or relative to take care of this for your. It will be helpful if they can put down the back seat of their car, or have a large, flat trunk area to lay the painting flat. Ask your venue to have a display easel available for when the painting is finished.
How would you describe your artwork?
I work in an impressionist style, and aim to have loose brushwork, focal point, attention to composition, light and shade, and an overall feeling of beauty. I pick the composition and style that I think will have the best result for each bride, and I am happy to work with the color scheme of your wedding and your home.
Will you paint for me if I live in another state, or want a destination wedding?
I will consider each request I receive. My included mileage is 2 hours round trip. Over 2 hours the travel fee is $100. Over 3 hours, the travel fee is $300. Over 4 hours: please contact me to discuss.
Do you have insurance?
Yes. I can provide proof of insurance or add additional insured upon request.
Will you ship?
Yes. I use the best provider to wrap, protect, and ship your paintings. Shipping prices start at $275.
Can you paint for me after my wedding has already happened? From a photo?
Yes, I can. All prices and sizes are listed on my “commissions” page. Your choice of canvas size and type. This also makes a nice wedding gift for a friend or relative.
The best photos for this are full length and show the couple walking together, or some kind of background scenery, a back view of the bride, or a short video of the first dance. At least 3 photos are best to get a feel of the couple and the location.
What will the artist wear to my wedding?
Beth will typically wear a long, black dress that is appropriate for the season and your venue. If she is using oil paints, she wears long black gloves. If you have a special request of what you would like your artist to wear, please feel free to ask!
